# Workers and recurring runs
Set up a worker so the agent runs on a schedule or from a trigger.
A worker pairs a profile with a way of starting runs. Instead of opening the app and starting each run yourself, the worker does it on a cadence or when something calls its trigger URL.
## Add a worker
- Open Agent .
- Select Add worker.
- Give the worker a name and choose the profile it should run.
- Choose how it should run, then save.
## Run modes
- **Mode**
- **What starts the run**
  Manual
  You start it yourself with Run now.
  Scheduled
  A cadence you set.
  Trigger
  An external call to the worker's trigger URL.
For a trigger worker, copy the trigger URL from the worker card and call it from whatever should start the run.
## Cadence options
A scheduled worker can run hourly, daily, weekly or monthly. Weekly schedules also take a day of the week, and monthly schedules a day of the month. Times run in the timezone set on the worker.
## Pausing and deleting
- Pausing a worker stops future runs and keeps its settings. Resume it whenever you want.
- Duplicating a worker copies its settings so you can vary one thing without rebuilding it.
- Deleting a schedule-backed worker removes the schedule and leaves its profile in place.
